DIY Wreath

 

So I had made a wreath last winter for this fall and was so excited to put it up. I put it up a few weeks ago..yes I know that is a little early... anyway it fell off my door when someone came to visit and kind of slammed the door as they left and it fell off and broke ;(. So I made another one. Quite different from the first but I think I like this one better. I wish I would have taken more pictures of the process but I didn't. 

Supplies:

Burlap

Wreath

Hot glue gun

Different kinds of material

Ribbon (i got the ribbon from here)

Ok so i cut a 3 inch strip of burlap and just wrapped it around the wreath all the way around. Then hot glued it in place.

 

 

 

Next I took the different kinds of fabric and cut strips. I cut different lengths and widths to whatever i wanted. I also cut some smaller strips of burlap to make the smaller rosettes.

 

Then I made a bunch of rosettes. I am sorry i didn't post  pictures of that process. I will do a post on how to make them another time i suppose.

 

Anyway i made all the rosettes and then started placing them where i wanted them and then hot glued them on. I then took some ribbon and tied bows to add a little different textures to the wreath. Then i hot glued them on.

If you have a big hook on your door that you hang wreaths by you could just hang it on or if you have a smaller hook you could hot glue a small piece of ribbon on the back to hang it on. Either way would work great i am sure!

color game

So my little guy just turned 2 last month. Crazy I know!! Anyway those of you who have kids know it is hard to entertain a 2 year old for very long!  Winter is coming fast around here and I have been stressed about what to do with him because he wont be able to go outside and play and I dont want him to just sit in front of the TV all day. So I decided I would make games and things so he will learn his colors, ABCs, and counting.  

So today we made this! Just a simple matching type game of his colors.. I make him repeat the color before he puts the clothes pin on. He actually likes it a lot so that is great! 

It is super simple to make.. I saw something like this on Pinterest and thought "hey i have all the stuff to make that i will try it out". I traced a circle onto a box and cut it out. Then i attempted to make even sections and color them. Don't judge i couldnt get the sections perfect but i figured he is 2 he wont care. 

Then i painted each color and he helped by painting the newspaper I put under it. And i panted the clothes pins and let it dry and then gave it to him. So i will let him play with it today then maybe put it away for a couple weeks and trade out other activities so he doesn't get bored with it. 

Anyway I will try to post all my ideas for the winter as i make them so keep checking back :)

stuffed pumpkins

So the other day I got together with a friend and we made these pumpkins! They are so fun and festive for the holidays! They were also super super easy to make! I got the idea from pinterest and this site!  The tutorial and everything is on that site. She gives the measurements and everything. For these pumpkins I made, I used the small, medium, and large. Give or take a few centimeters from her measurements

 

 

Crochet headbands and flowers

CROCHET HEADBANDS & FLOWERS

This is my latest obsession. I could seriously sit and make these all day. The headbands look super cute on babies all the way up to toddlers. I just made my niece some last week and she is 4 and they looked so cute on her. I almost liked them better on her than my little girl because her head is bigger.

Anyway these headbands are so fun because you can mix and match the colores of flowers and headbands. The flowers just button on and off so you almost always will have some that will match every outfit.

So I have a little obsession with crocheting! I go through phases, like I won't crochet forever, then someone will want me to make them a hat or headband or flower or something and then I will waste my days away crocheting. My family makes fun of me calling me a grandma but who cares I love it!

Anyway I made this adorable hat a week or so ago and thought I'd share it. It is still a little big for my little girl but I am thinking it will fit her just as it starts to get cold here which will be perfect ;)

There are many more crochet projects to come.

sidewalk paint

Sidewalk Paint

Summer is here and that means the weather in eastern utah is beautiful. I wanted to do fun things with my son outside because we have been inside all winter and i came across sidewalk paint. I was so excited to try it and it worked great! My son loved it and he is only 22 months old. Plus it is super cheap and easy to make. 

Instructions

 Mix equal parts water and corn starch. Pour into separate containers and add food coloring and your done. 

*Side notes... i thought when he covered himself in the paint that it would totally stain his clothes. But it came right out. Also the first time we did this the paint came off the sidewalk when it rained or with the hose no problem. The second time the blue paint was a little bit harder to get off but it did come off. Just so you know.

Carseat Canopy.

So I bought the material to do this a long long time ago and totally forgot about it until the other day when I was cleaning my craft room and found it so I decided to make the canopy before I forgot again. I did take some pictures of the process but they really didn't turn out at all so I will just tell you how I did it without the step by step pictures. It is really easy and just a few steps. The front of mine ( the pink) is just regular cotton material. The back is white minky material. If you buy a yard and a  half you will have plenty of material with some to spare. 

Step 1. Cut out your material. Mine was 42 1/2 by 28 1/2.

Step 2. Put the right sides together and sew around the sides. I noticed it was easier to sew the minky if it was on the bottom I dont know why. Sew all the way around but leave a small hole so you can flip it back with the right sides out.  I sewed mine with about 1/4 inch seem allowance.

Step 3. Turn it so right sides are facing out and sew all the way around it again closing up the hole this time. When i sewed all the way around this time i went as close to the edge as I could. 

Step 4. Cut out 4 straps. Mine were 8 inches by 2 1/2 inches.  

Step 5. Sew the right sides together and leave one end open to flip. 

Step 6. Flip material so the right sides are out and sew the one side shut. 

Step 7. I measured down 18 inches on the canopy and sewed a straight line all the way across this way it will hold the 2 fabrics together so when it is hanging the bottom wont fall down into the babies face. 

Step 8. Sew Velcro on to the straps.

Step 9. I measured down 18 inches so right where the line was that I sewed across and 8 inches in from the side and that is where i sewed my straps. and then i did the same on the other side 18 inches down and 8 inches in.

And your done!! Its as easy as that!

Fabric Bow



These bows are super easy to make and look really cute on new babies or older todlers which ever you prefer. They really only take maybe 5 minutes.

 

 

SUPPLIES:

Material

Sissors

Needle

Thread

 

 

Step 1: cut out a strip of fabric. Now this may change depeding on your style and how big or small you want the bow. I cut mine 7 inches by 2 inches. Then cut out a smaller strip which will go around the center of the bow i cut mine 5 inches by 1/4 of an inch.



Now fold your fabric so they over lap a little bit and then sew a loose stich up the middle. Make sure to go through the front of the fabric as well not just the back. (pictures below)

 

 

Now pull the thread tight so it scrunches up the middle and tie it off.

 

 

Now you wrap the smaller strip you cut around the middle to hide the stich. and you can either hot glue it on there or sew the back with a few stiches to keep it on there either way.

 

* what i did was lay my bow on to a headband ( I crochet all my headbands but I am sure it would work with the elastic headbands you buy also) then i wrap the smaller strip around my bow and my headband and that is how i attach the bow to the headband and then stich the back with 2 stiches just to keep it on. That way if i want to change headbands or something i can just cut the strip in the middle and it wont ruin my bow.

This flower is super simple I found a couple different ways of doing it on pinterest and then kind of made it my own. So this is what worked best for me.

 

Step 1. I cut out a flower shape out of paper and then pinned it on the fabric to cut it out. I am not good a drawing flowers freehand so i traced a quarter 5 times you can see it in the picture below and that made it so it was pretty even.

 

 

Step 2. For this flower i cut out 14 flowers. It depends on how poofy you want your flower most of the tutorials i saw only did 10 flowers it just depends on what you want. Anyway cut out however many flowers you want and 1 felt circle for the back.

 

Step 3. Fold the flower in half. And right where my finger is I put a small dot of hot glue and folded it in half again just to kind of keep it together.  So 1 pedel will be folded in half twice. You dont have to glue it in the middle like i did i just found the flower stayed together better.

 

Step 4. Place 4 pedals side by side onto the felt. Just put a small dot of glue in the middle and place the four around it. like the picture below.

 

Step 5.Do that same step again ontop of the ones you just glued in the spaces between. I did 3 rows of this on my flower.  Then for the top two just put a dot of glue and stick them in there so they are fluffed up. You can also not put the top 2 in and just put a button instead.

 

Side note. This works better for light fabric. I used just plain cotton for mine and you can see the right and wrong side. It would have probably looked better if you couldn't see the wrong side but oh well i still think it tured out pretty cute.

 

If you like this look better (the yellow flower below) It is the same process but instead of cutting out the flower with 5 pedals at the first it is just a cirlce. Then you just fold it in half and in half again just like before. The only difference is that its a circle and the red one was cut with pedals.

I have had quite a few requests on how I make my fabric flowers for my headbands. So I thought I would post 1 flower a week or maybe 2 depending on how it goes.This flower is super super easy. Lets face it most everything I will post on here will be easy because I don't have time to make hard complicated things and I like easy things.

Supplies.

Felt

Fabric

Sissors

Hot glue gun.

 Directions

Step 1.

Cut 1 circle out of felt for the back. Any color will do because you wont see it. 

Step 2. 

Cut out lots of circles of the fabric of your choice. I did about 15-20 circles. (see photo below)

Step 3.

Take one circle at a time and fold sides inward. (look at photo below). Put some hot glue on the bottom and glue it to the felt then keep squishing the circles in next to each other so they are all bundled up.

Eventually after you have glued a bunch on you will have a beautiful fluffy flower. I turned it over and cut off the excess felt but you don't need to unless it is showing. Just remember to try and glue all the circles as close together as you can it will make it look more full. 

You can put them on headbands or hats or whatever I think they are super cute!

Toddler Bed

TODDLER BED

Well my cute little son found out how to get out of his crib. So we had to make him a new bed. (**side note we made his crib also). So here is his new bed. We had some extra wood so my husband made a cute little toy box to put at the bottom to put all his toys in so maybe his room would stay clean. I am very pleased at how the bed turned out. I was nervous at first to have him have a bed he could get out of but he loves it and he stacks all his little trucks up on the shelf above the head board. 

For those of you who are nervous about switching your baby over to a toddler bed I say wait until they are 100% ready. We had to switch my son over because he kept throwing him self out of the crib and now sometimes i find him wondering around at night or he will come into our room in the middle of the night. At first he came into our room every night for the first month or so but now he stays in his bed until its light outside then he will come wake us up. 

Now I honestly love it. When he is tired he will go crawl in bed and when he wakes up from naps and stuff he can just get up and come find us it is very nice. Anyways i am very pleased at how the bed turned out. I must say I have a very talented husband to be able to figure it all out in his head then build it. with my help of course.

Remember when I made the tutorial how to make these types of table runner. Well I decided I needed something simple to add a Valentine feel to our home and decides a table runner would be perfect. I have been working on a lot of sewing projects. My mom made me this table runner last year and i just pulled it out with my fall decorations and decided to make some for every holiday. So i will post the tutorial for it when i finish the Christmas one i started. I like this one a lot better than the other one i made and its pretty simple. all you need is about 32 5 inch squares. But like i said i will post the tutorial when i am done with the other one just wanted to let you see it. 

Pumpkin Patch

I got this idea from pinterest and sort of simplified it to my liking. Now that fall is around the corner and Halloween is coming up i figured I would start breaking out the fall decor and put away the summer stuff. To be honest fall/winter is my favorite time of the year. I am working on a lot of decorations this year so hopefully i get them all done and on here.

As you can see this is pretty easy to make if you want to make them. all you need is 3 4x4 pieces of wood. My tallest one is 19 inches and my shortest is about 14 so the middle one is between there. Then i just got sticks and hot glued them on top for the stump. and paint. and your done :)

DIY Painted Curtians

I got this idea from this blog http://www.reckless-glamour.com/2010/11/painted-curtains.html and loved them. So i decided to try it myself. Our kitchen colors have been red and black sense we got married and I was ready for a change. I wanted to add a little color to our kitchen so we picked out a color we both liked and tried it.

Supplies :
-Curtains ( you can find cheep ones at Wal-Mart or target just plain white ones or just ones you have work just fine. These ones are ones we had from the other house we were living in)
-Tape ( so the paint doesn't bleed)
-Paint. (regular wall paint)

How to:
Tape off your stripes so they are all even or uneven how ever you want and paint. Be sure to paint a thick coat. Once you get them hung you will probably be able to see where you might have missed a little and its harder to touch up when they are hanging.

Table Runner Tutorial

 Ok this Table runner seriously took me maybe 8 minutes to sew. It is super easy. Kind of a fun way to add color or decorate for the different holidays or seasons. I tried to take pictures while i was doing it so it doesn't seem confusing so hopefully they help. Sorry they aren't the best pictures.

For the Fabric:

1/2 Yard for the back and self boarder

1/3 yard for the front

So as you can see there is quite the difference int he sizes. That is how it is supposed to be. Make sure the lady cutting them cut them straight mine weren't that straight and you can kind of tell because i didn't fix it.

Lay right sides together and stitch down the length of each side with 1/4" seam. This will form a tube

Turn right side out.

 

*Now it is best to iron it now. So measure out so you have the same amount of boarder on each side and iron it. it should be about 1 1/2 inch on each side. I didn't iron until the end and i think it would have looked better if i ironed now.

* Fold the runner in half with the front side together and stitch 1/4" on each end..

* Unfold and iron the seam open. Turn the point right side out and iron forming a triangle and your done!
